How FIFA World Cup 2026 Ticket Categories Work
FIFA World Cup 2026 uses a four-tier ticket category system across all 16 host stadiums. Understanding which category corresponds to which seating zone is the single most important factor in choosing the right ticket — often more important than the price itself.
Category 1 — Premium Sideline Seats
Cat 1 tickets are the most expensive standard tickets and cover the central sideline lower-tier sections at every stadium. These seats offer the best sightline balance: you can see the full pitch width, both goals, and tactical team movements without turning your head. For group stage matches at mid-tier US cities, Cat 1 starts at approximately $250–$450 per ticket. For the Final at MetLife Stadium, Cat 1 hospitality starts at $11,225.
Category 2 — Corner and Angled Lower Tier
Cat 2 covers the corner and angled lower-tier sections — still close to the pitch but at an angle rather than parallel to the touchline. These are typically the best value premium seats. You'll see most of the pitch clearly and feel the atmosphere intensely. Cat 2 group-stage prices range from roughly $150–$350 depending on the stadium and fixture.
Category 3 — Behind Goal, Lower Tier
Cat 3 seats are behind the goals in the lower tier. These are the most atmospheric seats at most stadiums — used by the dedicated supporter sections and ultras. The view of one goal is excellent; the far goal is distant. Cat 3 tickets also provide the loudest experience in terms of crowd noise. Prices start from approximately $80–$200 for group stage matches.
Category 4 — Upper Tier
Cat 4 tickets are exclusively reserved for residents of the three host nations (USA, Canada, Mexico) at discounted prices ($11–$80). They cover upper-tier sections, typically behind the goals or at steep upper angles. Non-residents cannot purchase Cat 4 tickets through official channels.
✅ Pro tip: For the best combination of view quality and atmosphere at most converted NFL stadiums, Cat 2 corner-lower seats consistently outperform Cat 3 behind-goal in terms of overall experience value — especially for fans who want to see both ends of the pitch.
Stadium-Specific Seat Tips for Top World Cup 2026 Venues
MetLife Stadium (New York/New Jersey) — The Final
MetLife hosts the Final on 19 July 2026. The stadium is fully enclosed which creates excellent atmosphere. Best seats: Sections 120–130 (lower sideline, Cat 1) for central views. Avoid: Upper 300-level end zones for the Final — sightlines are steep and very distant. The West sideline lower deck (sections 110–140) offers the best Cat 1 experience at MetLife.
SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles)
SoFi is a modern, architecturally striking venue with a massive roof structure. Best seats: Lower sideline sections (100s level) for premium views. Note that the roof can create shade issues for some lower corner seats in afternoon matches. Cat 2 corner sections offer excellent value. Avoid: End-zone sections behind goal posts which have the upright in the sightline for some seat positions.
Estadio Azteca (Mexico City)
The Azteca is the only stadium to have hosted two World Cup Finals (1970, 1986). At 2,240m altitude, the atmosphere is legendary. Best seats: Lower tier sideline sections for the best view-to-atmosphere ratio. The upper tier is dramatically steep — not ideal for those with vertigo but creates incredible crowd noise. Pro tip: Arrive at least 4 hours early — Mexico City traffic near the Azteca is intense on match days.
AT&T Stadium (Dallas/Arlington)
AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys) has one of the largest video boards in sports — suspended from the ceiling above the pitch. This means some upper-tier end zone seats have a partially obstructed sightline to the full pitch due to the scoreboard. Best seats: Lower sideline sections (100-level) for clear sightlines. The enclosed design creates an exceptional atmosphere for knockout matches.
